Long before I started photographing weddings for business, I shot many friends and family weddings. At the time I didn't think I wanted to do it as a carrier, as photographing a wedding and being a guest in it wasn't all that enjoyable.
But then, a couple whom I had never met before, convinced me to photograph their wedding. And I fell in love. I loved capturing their day. It was so beautiful and emotional and wonderful. It left me eager for more.
Since then I have photographer many weddings and I have loved each and every one of them.
Watching the nervous and blushing bride and the anxious groom, them seeing each other for the first time on their big day. The ceremony and the way the couple are looking at each other through it, the emotion and nerves that show on their faces and in their eyes. The joy and tears (sometimes) from their nearest and dearest family and friends.
But most of all, I love spending time with the newly married couple after their ceremony. The nerves are gone. All the formalities are done. Photos with family and friends have been captured. And now we can take a drive, a walk or a splash in the river and capture the couple's personalities. I love making a connection with the couple at this time and just allowing them to be them.
Couples have told me that they loved this hour or two as well. And they just get to spend time with each other, cuddle, kiss and just be themselves. Before the party starts.
